Checklist to Inspect Ready-to-Move in Flats

Home-buyers often end up making several alterations to their new property to make it suitable for living. Such unplanned alterations not only punch a hole into their savings but also come with the hassle of finding and supervising daily-wage labourers and unorganised vendors. This stressful situation can be avoided if we know what to check before buying a new home.

Here are a few checkpoints that can help you evaluate a new apartment for design functionality.

Natural Light and Ventilation

The home should be been designed in such a way to let in plenty of natural light and air. This gives the house a positive energy vibe.

Door and Windows Installation

a. Open and close doors and windows to see if they are fit properly.

b. Make sure that there are no gaps that let in draught in the window and door frames.

c. Check the level of doors and windows with a quick visual inspection standing a few feet away.

Laying of Tiles on the Floor

a. Check whether the tiles are laid uniformly with no visible air gaps between one tile and the next.

b. You can check the installation of tiles by quietly banging on it with a wooden rod or scale. You shouldn’t hear any hollow ringing noise when you tap on it if there is no air inside.

There should be Adequate Space for Furniture, Fixtures and Storage

a. Switches for appliances like TV, air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators, microwave ovens, etc., are placed properly with power points.

b. A proper place for AC outdoor units which can be easily accessible for maintenance in future.

c. The location earmarked for washing machine should have a water inlet and outlet pipe.

d. Space for Wardrobe should have a depth that is equal to or more than the length of your hand.

Adequate Space in Drawing/Dining room

a. Is there enough space for all your furniture?

b. See if the space provided for the TV is suited for comfortable viewing from the sofa.

c. Ensure that there is enough space in the dining hall for chairs to be moved back comfortably, without scraping the walls or cupboards.

Kitchen Should Have Adequate Space with Good Drainage System

a. The kitchen must have dedicated spaces for appliances like mixie, grinder, induction stove, ovens, etc.

b. Make sure that the ear-marked spaces for these appliances are adjacent to grounded power plugs.

c. Is there is adequate storage space in the kitchen for LPG cylinders and LPG pipelines?

d. Check the drainage in the kitchen.

Check the Quality of the Toilets

  • The toilets should have separate dry and wet floor areas.

  • Pour a mug of water on the toilet floor to see if the water drains quickly or if it stagnates on the floor.

  • Check the quality of CP Fittings by checking the brand name

Take Feedback

Buying a home is one of the most valuable and important purchases of your life. So, take feedback from the residents living in those units to understand if they are facing any problems like water supply, security, garbage disposal, power supply, maids availability, daily needs shops etc. You can also check the quality of construction with them if they are staying there for more than 3-4 yrs.

Know Before You Buy

Buying a home is one of the most critical decisions of your life. Not only are you spending your life’s savings but this is also the place where your loved ones would live.

Before you invest in property – be it an apartment or independent villa – you must make a site visit. Evaluate the quality and functionality of all the above aspects to ensure that you buy a home that is perfect for you and your family.
